Born in Scotland, Jennifer Lee's work reflects a lifelong practice of innovation with material and form. In 2018 she won the Loewe Craft Prize and in 2021 was awarded an OBE for services to ceramics.Her hand-built, unglazed pots are distinguished by their condensed language of form and subtle surface treatment and use of colour, which is integrated into the clay body using mineral oxides. They suggest ancient vessels while having a presence that is of our time. She lives and works in London and since 2014 has worked regularly in Japan. Lee exhibits in galleries and museums in London, Belgium, the USA Japan and South Korea.In 2009 Issey Miyake invited her to exhibit in “U-TSU-Wa” at 21_21 Design Sight, Tokyo. The installation was designed by architect Tadao Ando and her pots appeared to float on a vast pool of water.Lee’s ceramics and drawings are represented in fifty major museum collections worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum, British Museum and the V&A Museum as well as museums in Europe, South Korea and Japan.
