Intermediate Course: Plaster Moulds
This course focuses on the design, making and use of plaster moulds for ceramic production, both through slip casting and by working with plastic clay bodies.
Throughout the course, participants will acquire the practical skills needed to select and use the appropriate materials and tools, prepare plaster correctly, and create moulds suitable for reproducing ceramic forms. The first session will introduce the fundamental principles of working with plaster through the creation of a one-piece mould based on the shape of a drinking glass. The following sessions will focus on the design and construction of a multi-part mould, made from an object selected and brought in by each participant. After an introduction to preparing powdered clays and casting slips, the fourth and final session will be devoted to experimenting with the completed moulds, using them both for slip casting and for press moulding with plastic clay bodies.
The course is intended for those who have already attended a foundation course.
