Fondazione Officine Saffi joins Triennale Milano on the occasion of Mud Works, a durational performance by Lithuanian artist Lina Lapelyté, which will inaugurate the new season of FOG Performing Arts Festival 2026 on September 19, 2026.
With Mud Works, the Lithuanian artist and composer continues her performative research, exploring the encounter between voice, gesture, and sculpture as a space for the creation of new collective meanings. Winner of the Golden Lion as part of the Lithuanian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale Arte in 2019, Lina Lapelyté will present the premiere of a performance in the Triennale Milano Garden, unfolding through a continuous vocal score that will accompany performers and audiences as they shape clay together. The gradual accumulation of cubic forms sculpted through song will give rise to an ever-evolving social and material landscape.
Commissioned by Triennale Milano and the Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius as part of the European project PIT Perform Transform Inform, Mud Works sees Fondazione Officine Saffi working closely with the artist, supporting the project from its initial development through to the activation of the performance. This shared process explores the role of ceramics as a sculptural medium, examining its potential to act as connective tissue between presence, matter, and human relationships.
Lina Lapelyté (b. 1984, Kaunas, Lithuania) is an artist and composer whose performance based practice is rooted in music and explores pop culture, gender stereotypes, and nostalgia. She is best known for Sun & Sea (with Vaiva Grainytė and Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė), which won the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Working between Vilnius, Berlin and London, she collaborates with trained and untrained performers to create collective acts of singing that question systems of silencing and invite vulnerability. Among other places her work has been presented at Festival d'Automne/Bourse de Commerce (Paris), Wiener Festwochen, BAM, MOCA, the Venice Biennale, Taipei and Shanghai Biennials, Performa (New York), and Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin). Upcoming presentations include Tate Modern (London), Galeria Municipal do Porto, CAC (Vilnius), and the Medina Triennial (New York).
