“They present the idea of a common project respecting each personality. This results in unique pieces of stoneware and porcelain, examples of design and informal art stretching from elegant conceptual minimalism to photo-ceramic techiques, from the perfect line of form to pop art emanating from manga-cartoons.”Ceramic art from Finland has been highly acknowledged in Italy, starting in the 1950s at the Triennale (Triennials) in Milan. Art, design and ceramics represented a winningtreesome, identifying an original way of approach. Important international resonance was awakened by the works of Tapio Wirkkala and Timo Sarpaneva who both became modern icons, followed by others such as Birger Kaipiainen and Kyllikki Salmenhaara who also deserve mention. They left a mark owing to the essece and purity of their work. It combined elegance and delicacy in the selection of materials and shapes that in turn inspired Italian artists.Helsinki Fat Clay group continues today this artistic experimentation in the research for purity of forms, but maintaining in the multiplicity of experiences the ideal unit. Officine Saffi in collaboration with MIC of Faenza pays homage with this exhibition to their work and their traditions.
