Director Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte, Executive Director Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship

After graduating in International Political Sciences at the Cattolica University in Milan, and after a Master Class in Communication, Alberto Cavalli starts his career in fashion working for a well-known Milanese PR Agency. In 2001 he joins the Dolce & Gabbana International Press Office where he works until 2007 as Press Office Manager. In parallel he keeps a role as researcher at the University and develops a career as journalist, collaborating with numerous magazines. In 2007 he quits PR and is named “Lifestyle and Luxury Goods Correspondent” by Vedomosti, the leading Russian financial newspaper and by its monthly supplement, the Russian How to spend it magazine. In 2007 he joins Franco Cologni, the worldwide-known top manager of high jewellery and fine watch-making, to direct his Italian non-profit Foundation (Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte) dedicated to the promotion and protection of the finest Italian arts and crafts. In 2009 he co-curates the book Mestieri d’arte e Made in Italy. Giacimenti culturali da riscoprire, followed by Artefici di bellezza in 2013 and by Il Valore del mestiere in 2014, all published by Marsilio Editori. From 2010 he is a visiting professor at the Creative Academy in Milan, and from 2014 he teaches “Bellezza Italiana” (the code of Italian beauty) at Milan's Politecnico University. In 2016 he is named Executive Director of the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, a private, non-for-profit institution created in Geneva by Johann Rupert and Franco Cologni, with the aim to promote, protect and perpetuate the métiers d’art of excellence. For the Michelangelo Foundation he curates, in 2018, the international event Homo Faber: Crafting a more human future (Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice, 2018). In 2020 he curated, for the Cologni Foundation, Mirabilia. Una Wunderkammer per scoprire i mestieri d’arte milanesi, the first of a cycle of exhibitions dedicated to Italian contemporary crafts, organised in the Quadreria space of Triennale Milano.He is the Editor-in-chief of the magazine Mestieri d’Arte & Design. Crafts Culture, distributed twice a year by of Elle Decor Italia. He is a member of the Centre du Luxe et de la Création (Paris), of the Cultural Committee of the International Foundation of High Watch-Making (Geneva), of the jury of the Fondation Bettencourt Schueller (Paris) and is Vice President of the Noema Association for the promotion of musical culture (Milan).
