“The vessel is my object of choice. An archetypical form I’ve spent 20 years making variations on, from the functional and modest, to the aesthetic and sumptuous. Clay is my material of choice, because it contains so many possibilities: a plastic, amorphous material of incomparable formability that can be fired into imperishable, precise forms.”
Morten Løbner Espersen was born in 1965 in Aalborg, Denmark. He studied at the Danish Design School in Copenhagen and the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré in Paris. Morten has restored a new energy to the ceramic tradition through a twenty-year research on his favourite object, the vase. By keeping the form as essential as possible, the artist concentrates on the surface. Like an abstract painter, each of his creations is a journey into the world of colour and its infinite possibilities.
