About the artist

Ian Godfrey was born in Ely, in England, in 1942. He studied at the Camberwell College of Arts: Lucie Rie and Hans Coper have been his teachers and just like them he exposed his ceramic artworks at the Galerie Besson in London. Ian developed his own catalog of forms and his own way of working, which includes making engravings with a knife or a pen on the surface when it’s almost dry. In his style you can find Mediterranean influences, with nearly oriental features. He often included tiny natural elements, like animals or houses, in his artworks. He died in 1992 and he bequeathed his works to various public collections.
