About the artist
Torbjørn Kvasbø is one of the most important figures in contemporary ceramics. He was born in 1953 in Norway. He currently lives and works in Venabygd. Kvasbø taught at the University of Gothenburg's School of Design and Crafts from 1996 to 2000, and at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Active since the seventies, the artist investigates and pushes the potential of clay with a very physical and energetic work process. Kvasbø shapes and assembles simple tubular structures that expand in wide spirals, conquering the surrounding space. Dynamism and plasticity thus come together in highly monumental works.
