Participants of all levels of experience are invited to join the Inner Landscapes ceramics workshop with artists Ann Beate Tempelhaug and Ejrik Gjedrem, held in conjunction with the exhibition I Should Have Not Used Blue? by Ann Beate Tempelhaug.
What role does ceramic creation play in expressing our deepest emotions? How do these emotions connect to our experience of the landscape as time passes and the seasons change? What happens to the surface of a painting when it is made from the same earthly material shaped by our hands?
The workshop will begin with an introduction to these questions through a guided exploration of the exhibition and its themes, led by the artist. This will be followed by two hands-on sessions in the ceramics studio. In the first session, participants will take part in a collaborative ceramic painting exercise on a large clay slab, previously shaped by the artist in the days leading up to the workshop. Participants will experiment with combining colors, glazes, and colored porcelain. Following that, each participant will create their own "painting-sculpture" on a clay slab, painting it while drawing inspiration from their "inner landscape" and the shared experience with the artist and the group. The finished works will be fired by our studio technicians and will be available for pick-up approximately three weeks after the event.
The Inner Landscapes workshop, open to both experienced ceramicists and beginners, will be conducted in English by Ann Beate Tempelhaug, together with artist Ejrik Gjedrem. Officine Saffi's ceramic technicians will support the workshop and, if needed, assist participants with Italian translation.
The exhibition I Should Have Not Used Blue? is presented under the auspices of Comune di Milano and the Embassy of Norway in Italy. The exhibition is made possible with the support of Norwegian Crafts and in collaboration with Spazio Nobile. Exhibition open from Tuesday to Saturday with free entry, from March 19 to May 31, 2025.
